IT Asset Management (ITAM) is a cornerstone of IT Service Management (ITSM) yet is often omitted from existing ITSM implementations or initiatives. Version 3 of the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL®) expands the processes, functions and roles in the service life cycle. However, it still does not provide enough details on key process and functional integration points for ITAM. This lack of detail introduces significant challenges for organizations looking to implement ITSM processes to drive higher quality, stability and availability of IT services. The asset life cycle has a direct impact on the service life cycle and vice-versa. This document describes ITAM's role in providing a solid foundation upon which to build meaningful ITSM processes. It also describes the engagement methodology and technology needed to implement a comprehensive ITAM solution that creates business value across the service life cycle. |
